초록
The energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy rearranges or transforms energy relations between the traditional energy producers and consumers. This paper analyzes the impact of the arrival of the renewable energy era on the formation of geopolitical structures and its implications on the geopolitical restructuring of energy cooperation between South Korea and Iran. This study investigates the nature and geopolitics of the renewable energy in order to examine international energy collaboration using the SWOT analysis. The SWOT method is conducted by assessing “strengths”, “weaknesses”, “opportunities” and “threats” of energy cooperation between the two nations. As the geopolitics of conventional energy has transformed with the impact on energy relations between two traditional trade partners, the technical elements of renewable energy lay out the new nature of decentralization with the paucity of uncomfortable co-existence of economy and politics. The emergence of renewable energy lays the groundwork for a new level of cooperation centering on ‘civil’ and the reopening of energy relation, playing a significant role in the development of local energy system sustainability.
