초록

The demand for innovative solutions for elderly and disabled patient care is becoming increasingly critical with theacceleration of global aging. This paper presents the development of an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered automatic bed safetyguardsystem designed to prevent accidental falls among bedridden patients. The system integrates an infrared camera-based realtimeposture-estimation algorithm with an intelligent safety-guard control mechanism that determines deployment and retractionbased on patient movements. The motorized safety guard, driven by a brushless DC (BLDC) motor, precisely aligns with the positionof the patient to ensure smooth and reliable operation. Performance evaluations demonstrated 98% accuracy in posture-based safetyguardoperation. The motorized guard operated at speeds of up to 72.5°/s with high linearity (R2 > 0.996), ensuring precise and stablemovement. The experimental results confirm its effectiveness in enhancing safety and usability in long-term care, paving the wayfor AI-driven advancements in geriatric healthcare and smart assistive systems.
