Abstract
The effects of stress factors during service on mental health through self-esteem of naval soldiers were verified, and the conclusions are as follows. In particular, it can be seen that the authoritarianism and closedness within the barracks in the 1980s and 1990s, the transitional conflict and real-world threats in the 2000s and 2010s, and psychological isolation and digital stress after the 2020s have affected Navy soldiers. First, stress (role stress, job stress, internal stress, external stress) affected mental health. In other words, the higher the awareness of stress (role stress, job stress, internal stress, external stress) of naval soldiers, the greater the effects on mental health. It can be seen that it is important to create conditions that can improve the mental health of naval soldiers and promote positive development. Second, stress (role stress, job stress, internal stress, external stress) affected self-esteem. It can be seen that various programs to enhance self-esteem of naval soldiers are necessary. Third, self-esteem affected mental health. Self-esteem of naval soldiers had a direct effect on mental health. This shows that there is a need for research to develop and apply programs from a social welfare perspective to improve the self-esteem of naval personnel and to verify their effectiveness. In a comprehensive view, the mental health of naval soldiers should be understood in the context of not only the psychological characteristics of individuals, but also the flow of the times and the structural barracks culture. This study is significant in that it provides basic data that can contribute to the creation of a sustainable barracks environment by recognizing naval soldiers as psychological subjects and restoring self-esteem and systematically managing stress. In the future, the study can be expanded to include comparative studies by military branch, gender, and rank, and analysis of the effectiveness of intervention programs.
