Abstract

This study aimed to exploratively identify the perception types of nursing students regarding AI-based nursing using Q methodology. As a result of the analysis, a total of five perception types were derived. Type 1 is the ‘Risk-Vigilant Type’ which accepts the use of AI as a tool but emphasizes that the nurse's judgment is very important for safety. Type 2 is the ‘Conditional Acceptance Type’ which recognizes the practicality and educational necessity of AI but perceives that ethical and institutional safeguards must be in place for its adoption. Type 3 is the ‘Care Relationship Centered Type’ which does not completely exclude AI from care and emphasizes the importance of human-centered care and ethical safety, even if AI is introduced. Type 4 is the ‘Negative Apprehension Type’ characterized by a fundamental distrust and negative feelings toward AI technology, leading to caution regarding its introduction. Type 5 is the ‘Utility-Focused Type,’ which acknowledges the risks associated with AI technology and the potential for relational damage but perceives that clinical utility is more significant. The results of this study are expected to serve as foundational data for the innovation of AI-based nursing education for nursing students, as well as for the establishment of policies and the redefinition of professional roles.
