최근 교육철학 내에서 하나의 경향을 형성하고 있는 ‘실천철학으로의 전환’의 흐름은 새로운 교육철학이 아니라 새로운 교육(과)학을 지향하는 것이다. 이는 교육철학 내에서 이 흐름을 주도해왔던 영국의 교육철학자 Carr의 연구를 통해 확인되고 있다. 이론철학의 영역으로부터 완전히 독립하여 교육적 실천에 대한 단일한 연구를 지향하는 이와 같은 아리스토텔레스적 기획은, 그것이 보증하는 교육학에 대한 긍부정을 떠나, ‘교육학에 대한 학’으로서의 교육철학의 정체성을 명징하게 보여주고 있다. 국내에서 실천철학론을 주도하는 연구자들의 이와 같은 카의 연구에 대한 이해는 두 가지 측면에서 오류를 내포하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 첫째, 카의 기획이 현존의 교육철학들을 실천철학으로 전환하려는 것이 아니라 현존의 교육과학을 실천철학으로 전환하려는 것임을 명확하게 이해하고 있지 못하다. 둘째, 그로 인해 카의 작업이야말로 교육학에 대한 학으로서의 교육철학임을 또한 이해하지 못하고 있다. 아울러 카의 연구에 대한 평가와는 무관하게 국내에서 실천철학에 대한 논의를 주도하고 있는 연구자들이, 실천철학의 필요성을 현존하는 교육철학들이 교육적 실천을 연구하지 않음으로 인해 발생한 교육적 실천에 대한 영향력 상실에서 찾고 있는 것은, 자칫 이론의 진위를 실천으로 검증하려는 조야한 도구주의의 이데올로기를 재생산할 여지로 작용할 수 있다. 본 연구는 국내에서 실천철학을 주도하고 있는 연구자들의 위와 같은 문제점을 지적하는 동시에 교육철학은 교육학에 대한 학이 되어야 함을 논증하고자 한다.
Abstract
Nowadays ‘a current of conversion to practical philosophy’ making a tendency in philosophy of education is not new philosophy of education, but aims at new science of education. It can be ascertained in the studies of British philosopher of education, Carr at the head of this tendency. This Aristotelian project, separating from the realm of theoretical philosophy and intending a sole study of educational practice, has showed the identity of philosophy of education as ‘science of science of education'. Such understanding of Carr's study that domestic scholars leading discussion of practical philosophy have showed seems implicit errors in two aspects. First, they could not understand the fact that Carr's project was not converting existing philosophies of education to the practical philosophy but existing sciences of education to the practical philosophy. Second, they also could not know Carr's work is truly the philosophy of education as science of science of education. In addition, domestic scholars who are leading discussion of practical philosophy criticize existing philosophies because they don’t study educational practices and result in loosing influence in educational practices. However, there is some possibility of doing that this approach reproduces vulgar instrumentalism which verifies the truth of theory through practice. This study attempts to point out the above stated problems of the domestic scholars leading practical philosophy and prove that philosophy of education should become science of educational science at the same time.
