가다머(H.G. Gadamer)의 예술론에 비추어 본 ‘교육 내용의 내면화 비유’에 관한 해석

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to interpret “the analogy of internalization” in light of Gadamer’s theory of art, and derive an implication on the nature of school subjects. The main point of the analogy of internalization is to expose the nature of mind in regard to the subjects Internalization involves a change from the subjects that are different from mind, into something that is homogeneous to the mind. According to Gadamer, a work of art consists of the aspect of “self-expression” and that of “appreciator”. Internalization is to be explained as the change from self-expression in a work of art which is different from mind, into something that is homogeneous to the mind through the recognition of appreciator. Appreciation of a work of art is to recognize the essence of it in terms of the representation of the work of Mimesis. The recognition of the essence is to be considered as the learning of a work of art. It is not to apprehend the object of learning which is the same regardless of the knowing subject, but to realize the unity of the invitation of the author and the cooperation of the appreciator. According to Gadamer’s theory of art, the school subjects are not something to be internalized, but to be realized in the knowing subject as the form of “self-forgetfulness”. “The self” in this sense is not the subjective one having the arbitrary imagination, intentions, and motives, which are irrelevant to the self expression of a work of art, but that of acquiring on the emotion, judgment, feeling which are followed by the recognition of the essence. The unity of invitation and cooperation is the whole self as well as the whole subject matter. The subject matter in the proper sense does not mean something to be internalized, but the one which is to be revealed through binding together the self expression in a work of art and the self-forgetfulness of the appreciator as the learner.
