경찰관의 외상 후 스트레스와 자살생각에 관한 연구

초록

많은 사람들이 외상 후 스트레스(PTSD)로 심리적 어려움을 겪는 경찰관에 대해 부정적인 편견을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이런 부정적 편견을 하나의 경찰 조직문화로 간주하여, 외상 후 스트레스를 경험하는 경찰관들이 얼마나 많이 자살생각을 하는지 실증적으로 검증하고 조직문화가 이에 미치는 영향력을 확인보고자 했다. 구체적으로 이 연구에서는 서울 소재 경찰서에 근무하는 116명의 경찰관들을 대상으로 외상 후 스트레스 증상, 자살생각, 회복탄력성의 하위척도인 감정조절능력, 조직문화에 대한 인식을 측정하는 설문을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 68명의 경찰관이 외상 후 스트레스로 인해 심리 지원 및 개입이 필요한 으로 분류되었고, 이들 중 자살생각을 보고한 경찰관은 그렇지 않은 경찰관보다 조직문화에 더 부정적인 인식을 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 추가적으로 푸아송 회귀 분석을 실시한 결과, 외상 후 스트레스 경찰관의 경우 조직문화에 대한 인식이 낮아질수록 자살생각을 할 확률이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 심각한 상황에 놓인 경찰관의 외상 후 스트레스 경험 실태를 파악하였고, 심리 지원 및 개입이 필요한 외상 후 스트레스 이 자살생각을 하는 데에 경찰 조직문화의 영향력을 실증적으로 확인되는 기회가 마련되었다고 하겠다.

Abstract

This study aims at exploring the relationship between post traumatic stress and suicidal thought toward policemen in South Korea. The police sub-culture should be emphasized in finding out the association because police organization has not provided sufficient level of support and consideration toward the policemen experiencing post traumatic stress disorder(PTSD). In this context, the major purpose of this study is to investigate crucial factors that are associated with suicidal thought contemplating the effect of negative police sub-culture among vulnerable PTSD policemen. The samples of 116 policemen were selected and surveyed in Seoul police stations. The present study utilized key variables of PTSD, individual resilience level, emotion management skill, police organization perception, and suicidal thought. The descriptive statistic result showed that 68 participants had PTSD symptom among total of 116 policemen. Moreover, independent two-sample t-test analysis demonstrated that PTSD policemen with suicidal thought percept their sub-culture more negatively than those without suicidal thought. The results from Poisson Regression analysis indicated that suicidal thought was determined by negative perception toward police organization among 68 PTSD participants. Further policy implication will be discussed.
