북한출신주민과의 지역사회 내 접촉수준에 따른 남한출신주민의 태도의 차이: 인천 논현동 지역 거주자를 중심으로

Abstract

This study investigates South Korean Residents’ Attitudes toward North Korean immigrants in Nonhyon-Dong, Namdong-gu, Inchon where many North Korean immigrants co-reside with native South Koreans. It focuses on the relationship between contacts and attitudes. One hundred seven native South Korean residents answered a questionarrie. Main findings are as follows. First, South Korean residents have relatively negative attitudes toward North Korean immigrants in terms of cognitive and emotive dimensions than their attitudes toward South Korean residents. They also show lower acceptance and trust level. Second, people with higher level of contacts in terms of frequency and numbers of people have better attitude. They have better attitudes towards North Korean immigrants, higher level of acceptance and trust. They also show higher level of understanding. These findings imply that higher level of contacts between South Korean residents and North Korean immigrants may result in better attitudes of South Korean residents toward North Korean immigrants, and thus contribute to the social integration.
