평양 청년세대 ’이중‘ 의식구조에 대한 현상학적 연구

이 연구는 전체주의 사회 안에서 시장과 함께 성장한 평양 청년세대의 ‘의식구조’를 밝히고 있다. 연구 방법으로는 사물의 본질을 밝히고자 하는 밴 매넌의 해석학적 현상학적 접근을 시도하였다. 자료 수집은 1990년 이후 출생자로 평양에서 청소년과 청년기를 5년 이상 보낸 5명을 선정 심층인터뷰를 진행하였다. 해석 과정에서는 현상학적 문헌인 오웰의 『1984』, 샤르트르의 『구토』, 반디의 『고발』을 적용하였다. 4실존체 분석결과 관계성에서는 부모의 권력과 부에 따라 친구 관계가 형성됨을, 공간성에서는 아지트 공간에서 이루어지는 행위와 감정변화를, 신체성에서는 피부색과 스타일, 성형을 통한 감정과 의식변화를, 시간성에서는 일탈경험의 반복을 통한 태도와 의식변화를 분석했다. 종합적 논의에서는 평양 청년세대 의식구조의 핵심을 ‘이중사고’로 보고, 스스로 통제하는 이중사고의 형성과 이에 따른 이중적 삶에 대해 묘사했다. 결론에서 평양 청년세대 이중 의식구조와 행동은 북한의 지배 양상이 ‘자발적 이데올로기 지배’에서 ‘수동적, 체념적 이데올로기 지배’로의 전환되고 있음을 언급한다.
Abstract
This study reveals the 'consciousness structure' of Pyongyang’s younger generation who grew up alongside the development of the market in a totalitarian society. As a research method, the phenomenological research method of Max van Manen, which seeks to elucidate the essence of things, is used. For data collection, in-depth interviews were conducted with five people who were born after 1990 and who have spent more than five years in Pyongyang since becoming teenagers. In the process of interpretation, concepts are applied from phenomenological literature, including Orwell's 1984, Sartre's Nausea, and Bandi's The Accusation. The young people’s lives are analyzed in terms of van Manen’s four fundamental life-world existentials, as follows: in relationality, that friendship is formed according to parental power and wealth; in spatiality, that behaviors and emotions change when in their personal space; in corporeality, that emotions and consciousness are affected by skin color, style and plastic surgery; and in temporality, that attitudes and consciousness change through repetition of unauthorized experiences. In the general discussion section, the core of the consciousness structure of the younger generation in Pyongyang is viewed as ‘double thought’, and the formation of self-directed double thinking and the resulting double life are described. In the conclusion, it is noted that the dual consciousness structure and behaviors of Pyongyang’s younger generation are changing the pattern of domination in the DPRK from ‘voluntary ideological domination’ to ‘passive, resigned ideological domination’.
