중등 국어 교사의 적합 도서 추천 기준에 관한 연구

이 연구는 중등 국어 교사가 독자에게 적합한 도서를 어떻게 추천하는지 그 양상을 실증적으로 탐색해보는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 중등 국어 교사 134명을 대상으로 상황별 추천 도서와 도서 추천 요인에 대한 인식과 그 이유에 대한 질적 반응을 살펴보았다. 연구 결과 중등 국어 교사들은 첫째, 독자들이 도서를 선정할 때, ‘흥미’와 ‘표지’, ‘제목’을 중심으로 선정하며 독자 주변 맥락 요인에 많은 영향을 받는다고 인식하고 있었다. 둘째, 독자의 관심과 흥미, 텍스트의 난도, 교사 자신의 관심․흥미 분야를 우선적으로 고려하여 독자에게 추천하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 학습 독서 목적에서는 소설, 인문, 역사, 정치 분야 순으로 도서를 추천하였으며, 그 이유로는 수업과의 연계성, 배경 지식 확대 등을 들었다. 넷째, 자유 독서 목적에서는 소설, 만화, 여행, 인문 분야 순으로 도서를 추천하였으며, 그 이유로는 여가나 흥미를 중심으로 추천해야 하며 그 외에 인성, 정서 순화, 실생활, 진로에 도움이 되기 때문임을 들었다. 마지막으로 중등 국어 교사들은 읽기 목적별로 독자-글-상황-교사 요인 순으로 그 중요도를 평정하였다. 이러한 연구 결과는 교실 상황에서 교사가 가진 역할의 중요성을 고려했을 때, 이들의 도서 추천이 긍정적 독서 태도를 형성하기 위해 매우 중요하다는 사실을 다시 한 번 강조하는데 시사점을 제공한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate empirically how middle school Korean language teachers recommend suitable books for students. We examined qualitative responses to the perceptions and the reasons for recommending books from 134 middle and high school korean language teacher. The results of survey provide answers to the problems. First, Korean language teachers perceived that readers are mainly influenced by the contextual factors of their readers, and select books focusing on ‘interest’, ‘book cover’ and ‘title’. Second, teachers recommend books considering readers’ concern and interest, difficulty of text, teacher’s concern and interest. Third, for reading to learn, teachers mainly recommend in the order of novel, humanities, history and politics because it’s related with classes and helpful for extending students’ background knowledge. Fourth, for voluntary reading, teachers recommend in the order of novel, cartoon, trip, humanities because ‘voluntary’ reading should be related with interest and leisure and also good for developing student’s character, emotional facts, practical abilities and building career plan. Finally, middle school teachers order the recommend factors of reader, text, situation and teacher. This result demonstrated that teachers’ recommendation is important to build students’ positive reading attitude considering the significance of teacher in classroom situation.
