여성의 경험을 통해 본 재혼관계의 구성 과정-이혼 후 재혼한 여성 사례를 중심으로-

초록

본 논문은 1990년대 말 이후 여성의 재혼이 증가하고 있는 한국사회에서, 재혼을 재혼가족의 문제가 아니라 자신의 삶 속에서 불만족한 결혼관계를 떠나고 또 다시 새로운 관계를 모색하는 여성주체의 행위라는 관점에서 바라볼 필요가 있다는 문제의식에서 출발하여, 개별 여성들이 살아가는 구체적인 사회구조적 조건을 배경으로 전혼과 이혼 후의 삶, 그리고 재혼 후의 삶이 다양한 층위에서 연관되는 과정 속에서 여성이 구성해내는 재혼관계의 양상들을 분석하고자 하는 연구이다. 이를 위해 2005년 7월부터 2008년 8월까지 전남지역 중소도시의 이혼과 재혼경험이 있는 30-40대 여성 15명을 심층면접하였다. 여성들은 서로 다른 재혼의 결합양식 속에서 경제적 능력 등 자신의 자원과 이혼경험의 해석, 재혼에 대해 가졌던 기대 등에 따라 재혼관계를 구성해나가며, 그것은 근대결혼의 가치 및 부계혈연중심 가족주의에의 동조와 이탈 정도에 따라 순응, 갈등, 변형, 단절, 해체의 다섯 가지 유형으로 구분되었다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 여성의 삶 속에서 결혼이 여러 번의 경험이 될 때, 한 개인의 생애 내에서도 주체의 행위성과 지향 그리고 각자가 처해있는 사회구조적 조건들에 따라 각각의 결혼관계가 동일하지 않게 구성되어감을 논의하였다. 이는 과정을 생략한 채 진행되고 있는 한국의 재혼연구가 여성들의 다양한 욕구와 행위성이 연루된 새로운 현상으로서의 여성의 재혼 현실을 반영하지 못하고 있음을 비판하는 것이기도 하다. 그러므로 재혼을 해결해야 할 문제들이 발생하는 처소가 아닌, 결혼과 가족의 질적 변화를 탐지할 수 있는 창구로서 바라보는 관점의 전환이 필요함을 주장하였다.

Abstract

This study tries to focus the female subject that ended the previous unsatisfactory marriage life and takes new relationships into consideration rather than attributing problems to the remarried family in the context of women’s remarriage rate rapidly increasing in the contemporary Korean society. It analyzes the characteristics of the remarried relationships women construct throughout the multi-layered life processes of marriage, divorce, and remarriage. For this, in-depth interviews with the 15 remarried females in the age of between 30s and 40s from small Jeonnam cities were conducted from 2005 July to 2008 August, along with pre- and supplementary interviews with other participants. Many of the women are observed to construct their remarried relationships based on their own resources, interpretation on the divorce experience and their expectation for remarriage. Women’s remarriage relationships are concluded to be divided into five phases, according to the degree of accepting and negating the values of modern marriage and patrilineal familism: adaptation, conflict, transformation, severance, and dissolution. This study asks for a shift of perspective on remarriage. That is, remarriage should be less an epicenter of social problems than a tool to read qualitative changes of marriage and families, for considering remarriage as a problematic unit of family only leads to a conclusion of women’s adaptation to patriarchal marriage.
