본 연구는 노인요양시설에서 생활하는 여성노인들의 사회적 관계를 탐색한 것으로 질적사례 연구방법(qualitative case study)에 의해 수행되었다. 심층면접과 참여관찰을 통해 확보된 연구자료는 Stake(1995)의 사례 분석 기법으로 분석하였다. 연구사례현장은 P도시에 위치한 A노인요양시설로서, 그곳에서 거주하는 9명의 입소노인들은 의도적 표집방법에 의해 모집되어 연구에 참여하게 되었다. 연구결과로써 여성입소노인의 사회적 관계는 갈등과 단절의 성격을 지니는 입소노인들 간의 관계, 유대와 원망의 성격을 지니는 자식과의 관계, 돌봄에 대한 만족과 불만족으로 평가되는 요양보호사와의 관계로 범주화되었다. 본 연구는 장기요양보험제도의 실시이후 증가하고 있는 장기요양시설이 단순한 의료시설이 아니라 노인들의 대안적인 삶의 공간으로 기능하기 위해서, 입소노인들의 정서적이고 사회적인 유대관계의 중요성을 주장하고, 입소노인의 사회적 관계욕구의 충족을 위한 사회복지적 방안을 개발하는 의의를 가진다.
Abstract
The study explored elderly residents’ experiences related to social relationships in a long term care facility. A qualitative case study was used to gain a deep understanding of social relationships of elderly residents. In-depth interviews and participant observation were used to gather information from 9 elderly female residents. 9 participants were invited to study by purposive sampling method. Vertaim transcripts of audio-taped were analyzed by methods of Stake(1995). The findings showed that the relationships among elderly residents were conflictive and disconnected. In addition, elderly residents had multiple feelings, such as connectedness and resentment toward their adult children. In terms of care workers’ care, elderly residents reported ambivalent evaluation. With more long-term care facilities, elderly people are more often placed in nursing homes than in the past. An increased understanding of their experiences related to social relationships is essential to satisfy residents’ needs and promote their psychosocial well-being.
