우리나라 대학교 행정학과의 교육과정 문제점과 발전방안에 대한 연구

Abstract

Scholars of public administration have consistently raised issues on the effectiveness of public administration education. This study aims at responding to the issues by analyzing undergraduate level curricula provided by departments of public administration. For this purpose, curricula of 31 departments of public administration ranked by Korea Joongang Daily are analyzed. Results show that most departments provide a curriculum road map, which is one of the 5 types (academic type, sub-major type, career-path type, core competency type, and time-series type). Additionally, most departments of public administration provide core courses, and some departments have distinctive courses and different department names other than “public administration.” For further investigation, department heads of public administration from the 31 universities were surveyed to reveal their thoughts on the current issues and future directions of public administration education. With previous literature and department heads opinions, this study provides sample curricula meeting students’ needs. Finally, this study specifically discusses directions of public personnel administration education. This study expects that discussions from this study may help developing curricula that satisfy students’ needs as well as providing directions to respond to current issues on public administration education.
