Abstract
This study aims to investigate the determinants of support for military welfare policies for enlisted service veterans in South Korea by analyzing cross-sectional data of 1,500 samples. The author analyzed public support for three representative military welfare policies, namely the employment support policy, welfare support policy, and academic support policy. The results showed that the perception of the contributions of enlisted service veterans to society and the difficulties they would face after their discharge had a positive effect on the support for these policies. Regarding the effect of material self-interest, men under the age of 40 with high material self-interest in the policies showed higher support, whereas women under the age of 40 showed lower support. Additionally, the analysis of policy awareness indicated that higher awareness and understanding of military welfare policies resulted in higher policy support. Based on the findings, the author suggests constructive policy recommendations for improving the military welfare policies for enlisted service veterans.
