초록

Objectives This study aimed to evaluate the effect of oral herbal medicine on febrile convulsion in children. Methods Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) was used to search randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on febrile convulsion in children. Results We identified 21 studies that used herbal medicine alone or combined with Western medicine. According to studies, Paeoniae Radix (芍藥), Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncus (釣鉤藤), Gazellae seu Saigae Cornu (羚羊角), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (甘草), and Rehmanniae Radix Recens (生地黃) were among the most used herbs in herbal medicine decoctions for treating febrile convulsion. We observed that combining herbal and Western medicine was more effective for treating febrile convulsions in children than using Western medicine alone. Conclusion Oral herbal medicine are thought to be effectively and safely treat febrile convulsions. However, despite limitations such as insufficient reports and absence of well-designed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in other countries, regional bias, and variation of the evaluation criteria across studies, limitations of the types of blinding the participants and researchers, this study is significant in that it is the latest study to analyze RCTs studies on the Chinese medicine treatment of febrile convulsion in children using the oral herbal medicine.
