Abstract

After the restoration of the country's independence from Japanese colonization, anti-communism appeared as an upfront ideology that regulated the Korean society and caused many incidences of novels being indicted. And yet the researches concerning such incidences have rarely been conducted. This article is to discuss the literary meaning of the above incidence based on the novel, Boonji. Two aspects were considered: One is to unfold the logic of the incidence internally and the other is to do it externally. The former explains how the text materialized the possibility of becoming indicted. The latter shows how the external arguments confirmed Boonji as the subject of literal indictment. The former summarizes as follows. Not like other novels, Boonji set the heroines victimized by America instead of the ones who followed the American values blindly. It strongly criticized American dominance by using the subject who was cynical about America. Such criticisms were different from the cultural comments which had been seen in the author's former writings. Due to this internal change, the tension between anti-communism and Jyunghyun Nam's novels became amplified. The latter summarizes as follows. The contemporary arguments concerning Boonji' developed upon the social acceptance of anti-communism. Although many people who participated in the debate on Boonji had different views, they progressed their arguments accepting anti-communism. It affected Boonji not to be free from being stigmatized.
