Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the possibilities of the step test for the clinical purpose in type Ⅱ diabetic patients by studying of the correlation between cardiorespiratory fitness measured by step test and HbA1c, blood pressure, and blood lipids. In the experimental group, 90 patients with type Ⅱ diabetes who were composed of 15 females and 15 males in each age bracket of 40's, 50's and 60's were selected among the patients who visited 'E hospital' in Seoul. The control group of 90 people without diabetes were selected among the people who visited 'S hospital'. And "Tecumseh" step test was used for the cardiorespiratory fitness assessments. For the data processing, 'pearson bivariate correlation coefficients' were used to know the correlation between cardiorespiratory fitness, HbA1c, blood pressure and blood lipids. The results showed that there are significant differences between the cardiorespiratory fitness of control and that of the patients with type Ⅱ diabetes(p<.01), which were assessed by a step test and there is a correlation between cardiorespiratory fitness, HbAlc, systolic blood pressure and serum triglyceride(p<.05). Also there is a correlation between maximal oxygen consumption by cycle ergometer and heart rate during the recovery after step test. Therefore it is necessary to test cardiorespiratory fitness for the exercise prescription and prognosis prediction and step test can be used to test cardiorespiratory fitness in the type Ⅱ diabetic patients.
