Abstract
The purpose of this study was to suggest the appropriate angular velocity and formula to predict the actual 1 RM by comparing between free weight(FW) 1 RM and Ariel Computerized exercise system(ACES) 1 RM which was isokinetic device for measuring the muscular power and strength. For this purpose, 17 boxing national athletes participated and they ware measured 1 RM bench press and half squat by FW and ACES which was done at three kinds of angular velocity, 3°/sec, 5°/sec, 7°/sec. The results were followed as : First, in bench press there was close correlation between FW and ACES at 3°/sec, whereas in half-squat 1 RM showed correlation betweem FW and ACES at 5°/sec, which meant that angular velocity as load might be different according to the measuring item. Second, in the bench press The formula for predicting the weight of FW 1 RM by average torque(AT) and peak torque(PT) at 3°/sec from ACES was followed as;1 RM=22.104+0.993AT(kgf)-0.425PT(kgf):R2=80.0%, SEE=7.08kg. Third, in half squat, the formula at 5°/sec from ACES to predict the weight of FW 1RM was followed as;1 RM=47.836+0.313AT(kgf) -0.042PT(kgf) : R2=70.8%, SEE=9.27kg. Therefore, these formulas might make it possible to predict real 1 RM with ease and safety, in addition according to the measuring item we should change the angular velocity in measurement of 1 RM by using ACES.
