Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of muscle, balance and walking training on the variables of ground reaction forces in children with Down syndrome. Nine children (9~12 years old) with Down syndrome participated in this study. The participant with Down syndrome participated in muscle, balance and walking training for 12 weeks, three times a week. Ground reaction force's variables of gait were measured two force platforms set at 1200 frequency. A paired t-test was employed for selected ground reaction force variables to analyze the differences of the effect of training. The results indicated that gait velocity decreased, maximum peak and second peak time ratio of vertical ground reaction forces increased, maximum peak and second peak values with normalized with body weight increased, range of motion of whole center of pressure decreased after training. In conclusion, Down syndrome's gait ground reaction force variables improved after the 12 week's muscle, balance and walking training.
