이 글은 적응형의 개념을 활용하여 야래자설화의 설화권역에 대한 가설을 제시하고 권역별 특성을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 야래자설화는 공간의 특성과 시간적 깊이에 따라 형성되어 온 적층성이 가장 잘 각인된 설화이다. 이에 설화권역에 나타나는 적응형에 대해 역사적·지리적·민속적으로 최소한의 ‘문화적 표현방식’을 추찰해 보았다. 그 결과 역사적 요인으로 <권역 C>는 백제 문화권이며, 전승집단의 독자성을 유지하면서 전승된 것으로 보았다. 후삼국시대의 신라문화권인 <권역 D>는 견훤의 부정적 인식으로 인해 유래담으로 전설화되는 경향을 지닌다고 보았다. 지리적 요인으로, <권역 A>는 개방성으로 인해 변이가 일정한 경향을 띠지 않으며, <권역 B>는 지역적 보수성으로 인해 유래담으로 정착된 것을 확인하였다. <권역 C>는 농경문화와 해상문화의 영향을 받았으며, <권역 D>는 <권역 C>와 마찬가지로 농경문화의 영향을 받은 것으로 보았다. 민속적 요인에서는 <권역 C>는 신화적 상상력으로 인해 치부담으로 변이된 것으로 보았으며, 비극적인 결말이 강조되는 <권역 D>는 기우제에 기인한 것으로 보고, 부정적인 ‘지렁이’와 ‘뱀’은 퇴치되어야 할 대상으로 지역적 특색이 나타난다고 보았다.
Abstract
This dissertation aims to come up with a hypothesis about the folklore region of Yaraeja (meaning ‘those who come at night’) folk tale by utilizing the concept of oicotype. Yaraeja folk tale is the most prominent folklore in which a folk tale has been formed and accumulated over a long period of time, depending on the characteristics of locality and the depth of time. In accordance with this idea, the regions of the folklore are classified based on the variation of the narrative themes of Yaraeja and a minimum ‘way of cultural expression’ are inferred and investigated in terms of history, geography and folklore. As a result, in terms of history, the <Region C>, as a cultural region of Baekje , has been passed on, maintaining a unique identity. The <Region D> shows tendency to be legendized as stories and things of origin due to a negative recognition of Gyeonhueon. In terms of geography, it is confirmed that in the case of <Region A>, its openness rendered the variations mixed without consistent tendency, while in the case of <Region B>, due to the conservative characteristics of the region, stories of the origin of the region and things were settled. The <Region C> has been influenced by agricultural culture and marine culture, and in the <Region D>, the development of agricultural culture saw the identity of Yaraeja represented in a mixed form. In terms of folklore, in the <Region C>, mythical imagination transformed the stories into the stories of the accumulation of wealth, while in the case of the <Region D>, the emphasis on tragic ending was ascribed to the rain ceremony and regional characteristics revealed themselves in representing ‘earthworms’ and ‘snakes’ as negative creatures to be eradicated.
