본 연구는 우리나라 은행산업의 최근 생산성 추이를 살펴보고, 정태적 효율성 지수 및 동태적 생산성 지수에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대하여 분석하였다. 구체적으로 DEA를 통한 정태적 효율성 지수를 중개기능 모형 및 운영적 모형의 관점에서 Tobit 모형으로 살펴보고, Malmquist 총요소 생산성 지수를 이용한 동태적 지수를 Lozano & Humphrey (2002)의 모형을 중심으로 확률효과 모형을 통하여 살펴보았다. 그 결과 은행산업의 노동생산성과 총요소생산성과의 최근 추이에 큰 차이가 존재하였고, 개별 은행의 자산규모를 크게 하는 것이 반드시 은행의 동태적 생산성을 증가시키지는 않으며, 은행산업의 생산성 향상을 위해서는 정부는 지주회사로의 전환을 위한 정책적 노력을 계속하고 개별 은행은 그 운영에 있어서 예대율을 낮추는 노력을 경주할 필요가 있음을 발견하였다.
Abstract
This paper investigates the recent trends and its determinants of Korean bank productivity changes. We analyze the static efficiency indices from DEA using Tobit model, and the dynamic productivity indices from Malmquist total factor productivity using random effect model. The total factor productivity of the Korean banking industry from 2003 to 2010 shows very different trends than the labor productivity. Our findings also suggest that the financial holding companies in the industry have higher productivity growth than the others. We also find that loan to deposit ratio shows negative effects on productivity changes.
