Abstract

This study speculated on how Nuljae Park Sang perceived reality and responded to it through poetry. Park Sang perceived that there was a full of injustice and unreasonableness at those times and the specific contents were seen through what he experienced. Also, he bravely faced against injustice beyond staying under the perception, which indicates that he realized the Salim mind according to reality. Park Sang responded to reality through poetry based on the perception. This study classified the specific contents to investigate into: ‘confrontation and criticism of social conditions’, ‘arguments of dilemma in intellectuals in the period of Sahwa(a purge of Confucian scholars’ and ‘sympathy with fetters in the people's life.’ Park Sang daringly confronted the social conditions and criticized what was wrong. He knew the dilemma intellectuals were forced to have as he lived through the Sahwa period. Finally, he did not turned his back to fetters in the people's life This study gave a focus on the characteristics of configuration in the respondence poetry he wrote. He usually wrote poetry using metaphor, questions and answers, and allegory because of his political position although he wrote some of realistic poetry.
