There are 25 duplicate words in “SangHanLun”(『傷寒論』), and they are respectively, "AiAi(藹藹), LeiLei(累累), PiePie(瞥瞥), YingYing(縈縈), MianMian(綿綿), JueJue(厥厥), JiJi(濈濈), JiuJiu(久久), WeiWei(微微), SaSa(灑灑), LiaoLiao(了了), ShiShi(時時), SeSe(嗇嗇), XiXi(淅淅), XiXi(翕翕), JinJin(几几), JiangJiang(漐漐), YuanYuan(緣緣), ZhenZhen(振振), MoMo(嘿嘿), YuYu(鬱鬱), YunYun(溫溫), ZhengZheng(蒸蒸), KuiKui(憒憒), ShaoShao(少少)”. Among them, fifteen of AiAi(藹藹), PiePie(瞥瞥), YingYing(縈縈), JueJue(厥厥), JiJi(濈濈), JiuJiu(久久), WeiWei(微微), LiaoLiao(了了), JiangJiang(漐漐), YuanYuan(緣緣), ZhenZhen(振振), MoMo(嘿嘿), YunYun(溫溫), ZhengZheng(蒸蒸), ShaoShao(少少) were firstly used in “ShangHanLun”. Some duplicate words can be followed by ending “Ran(然)” such as LeiLeiRan(累累然), JiJiRan(濈濈然). Duplicate words have the role of adverbial modifier as JueJue(厥厥), JiJi(濈濈), WeiWei(微微), SaSa(灑灑), ShiShi(時時), SeSe(嗇嗇), XiXi(淅淅), XiXi(翕翕), JiangJiang(漐漐), YuanYuan(緣緣), ZhenZhen(振振), YuYu(鬱鬱), YunYun(溫溫), ZhengZheng(蒸蒸), KuiKui(憒憒), ShaoShao(少少). Some are predicates like AiAi(藹藹), LeiLei(累累), PiePie(瞥瞥), YingYing(縈縈), MianMian(綿綿), JiJi(濈濈), JiuJiu(久久), LiaoLiao(了了), JinJin(几几), ZhenZhen(振振), MoMo(嘿嘿)) The meaning of duplicate words is basically the ‘shape of pulse’ or the ‘symptom of illness’.
