Abstract
This study analyzes the structural, stylistic, and grammatical characteristics of 915 Ajinomoto (味の素) advertisements published in the Chosun Ilbo and Dong-A Ilbo from 1925 to 1939. Chapter 2 compares their textual structure with other newspaper advertisements from the same era. Chapter 3 shows that mixed-script writing (Korean and Chinese characters) was common in the mid-to-late 1920s, while pure Hangul writing increased in the early 1930s, reflecting a shift toward colloquial language. Chapter 4 explores grammar, noting frequent use of noun phrases and complete sentences with final endings—features of spoken language. It also finds common use of colloquial sentence-final endings and a simplification of the traditional four-level honorific system into a more informal two-level system (haeche and haeyoche), highlighting the overall colloquial tone of the advertisements.
