[주해 천자문]과 複數字釋

Abstract

In general editions of Cheonjamun[千字文] such as Seokbong Cheonjamun[石峰 千字文], each Chinese character has only one matching ‘Saegim’(Korean translation of Chinese character). ‘Saegim’ is a primary or conventional Korean word, which can be a match to a Chinese character in its meaning regardless of the context. It is generally termed as ‘Sangyongjiseok’(Commonly used Korean translation of Chinese character) or ‘hun’(Conventional Korean translation of Chinese character). But in Juhae Cheonjamun[註解 千字文], each Chinese character has more than one ‘Saegim’. Juhae Cheonjamun[註解 千字文] is purposedly made to provide information on 1,000 Chinese characters and teach the meaning of each phrase. Thus, the text is organized focusing primarily on the contextual Korean translation of each Chinese character and can be evaluated as proto-dictionary of Chinese characters. It is estimated that it followed the example of Hunmongjahoe[訓蒙字會] in explaining the meaning of Chinese character in Korean and Korean-Chinese simultaneously. This thesis studies the list of characters, which are differently translated in Juhae Cheonjamun[註解 千字文] and other 4 general editions of Cheonjamun[千字文]. Also, the definition of ‘seok’(Korean translation of Chinese character based on its actual meaning) and ‘hun’(Conventional Korean translation of Chinese character) is distinctively clarified and theoretical basis in establishing the standard Korean translation for Korean-Chinese education is presented.
