廉想涉의 초기 소설에서 女性의 正體性은 크게 전통적인 가부장제가 요구하는 女性의 位置에서 보면 ‘沈’하는 아내, 통제할 수 없는 위험한 性慾을 지닌 ‘蕩婦’的인 신여성, 그리고 俗惡한 현실에서도 맑고 깨끗한 품성을 지닌 하층 계급의 ‘淸純’한 누이의 세 範疇에서 재현된다. 이러한 재현은 民族이라는 명분 아래 女性의 正體性을 억압통제함으로써 民族的 男性性을 회복하고자 했던 지식인 남성 중심의 식민지 근대 民族主義 談論의 젠더 이데올로기와 관련이 있다. 전통적인 가부장제가 요구하는 여성의 위치에서 ‘沈’하는 아내들이 지식인 남편들의 近代的 自我 形成의 배제된 他者로서의 의미를 지녔다면, 위험한 성욕을 지니고 있는 ‘蕩婦’的인 신여성들은 훼손된 민족적 남성성 회복의 抑壓된 他者로, 맑고 깨끗한 품성을 지닌 下層 階級의 ‘淸純’한 누이들은 민족 부르주아의 階級的 正體性 확립의 去勢된 他者로서의 의미를 각각 지니고 있다.
Abstract
Woman-representation and Gender Ideology of Nationalism Discourse in Yoem, Sang-sup's Novels Choi, Ju-han This thesis is about the aspects of woman-representation in Yoem, Sang-sup's novels and the meanings in relation to colonial modern nationalism discourse, examining his earlier novels. Identity of woman in Yoem, Sang-sup's novels can be categorised into three types; silent wife in traditional patriarchism, the wonton new woman who has dangerousely uncontrolled sexual desires, the innocent sister of the lower classes who has pure and sincere personality in bad circumstances. These representations bear much relation to colonial modern nationalism discourse which was to establish national masculinity of the male intellectuals centric controlling and oppressing the identity of woman under the name of nation. Actually, the first type of identity of woman means the excluded other in the modern self fashioning of male intellectuals, the second means the oppressed other for restoration damaged national masculinity, and the third means the castrated other of establishment of national bourgeoisie class identity.
