敎祖 水雲(崔濟愚)이 殉敎하자 海月(崔時亨)은 한편으로는 東經大全과 龍潭遺詞를 印刊하여 布德의 길을 닦고, 또 한편으로는 官의 지목을 피하여 은거생활을 하면서 기회가 있을 때마다 道人들을 위해 法을 說하여 방대한 분량의 法文을 남기고 향년 72세에 殉道한 것으로 드러났다.海月神師讚歌도 그 내용이나 구조가 일반 東學歌辭와 크게 다르지 않지만, 本詞에서 敎主(海月)를 神格化시켜 거듭 찬양한 점은 여타의 동학가사에서는 찾아볼 수 없는 것으로, 이는 海月이 東學史에 남긴 행적이나 업적, 즉 敎團活動과 결코 무관하지 않는 것으로 보았다. 海月神師讚歌가 지니고 있는 美意識은 敎訓歌와 道修詞, 그리고 불교가사 回心曲 등이 지니고 있는 미의식과 동일한 유형의 것으로, 東學, 儒敎, 佛敎, 道敎의 윤리적 숭고가 혼융하여 구현되고 있는 것(崇高美의 단독 표출)으로 파악하였다.
Abstract
A Study of Haewalsinsa-Changa, a Newly Discovered Tonghak-Kasa Cho, Pyung-hwan The oral Haewalsinsachanga for this study is Donghakgasa, the song of praising Haewalsinsa of the second leader of Donghak. It was discovered by the academic fieldwork in Geojedo in April, 1999. The study firstly examined Haewalsinsa's life and thought and then his achievements in the history of Donghaksa. Then it analyzed the historical value of poem literature by reviewing the contents and structure of Haewalsinsa. When Suundaesinsa was martyred in March, 1864, Haewalsinsa published Donggyeongdaejeon and Yongdamyusa and developed a way for propagation. On the other hand, whenever he had chances, he preached to monks during his life of seclusion. He left enormous amount of Buddhist writings, and died as a Buddhist priest at the age of 72.The contents and structure of Haewalsinsachanga are not significantly different from other general Donghakgasa writings, but one of the unique features in the main texts is that it praised the leader repeatedly. This is closely related to Haewalsinsa's achievements for the history of Donghak. The significance of the study also lies in the fact that the discovery of the writings has expanded the range of the study in Donghakgasa, and his life has provided the reality of the Donghak history and the modern Korean history at the era of civilization.
