母系人物모티프’를 통한 洪命憙의 『임꺽정[林巨正]』 다시 읽기－抵抗談論的 性格 고찰 및 歷史小說로서의 위상 재조명－

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to put new interpretation on the narrative characteristics of Hong, Myung-hee's work―the succession of the storytelling of historical tale(野談) and the structure of biographies, and to evaluate Im, Keok-jeong as historical-novel succeeding the tradition of Korean literature. For the purpose, this study is specially focused on the motif of the mother's side character which is free motif. Generally, Im, Keok-jeong is character-centered narrative except the Whajeokpyon(火賊編). The structure of character-centered narrative is a series of biographies, specially ihyungjepyon(義兄弟編) is composed of biographies of male subalterns. This biographical structure is caused by the deconstruction of paternal family line which is the cause of the motif of the mother's side people. At the same time, the motif of maternal family have the function of connecting each narrative unit―the biographies of the male subalterns, and expanding narrative in the Whajeokpyon. The maternal family motif consistently appeared in the whole text of Im, Keok-jeong is the proof of the narrator(implied author) who control the whole text. So, it is possible to define Im, Keok-jeong as maternal narrative which is developed by male subalterns. Based on the characteristic of the maternal narrative, this study reads the consciousness of the author. It is the resistance discourse against the paternal dominance discourse treating on the struggle for the power of the ruling classes. This study also find out the limit of maternal narrative as resistance discourse. In Hong, Myung-hee's Im, Keok-jeong, the maternal narrative is not organized with the paternal dominance discourse. That is, the maternal narrative is resistance discourse ruptured from the dominance discourse, then it resist against dominance discourse outside of the dominance discourse.
