「홍의동자」는 을지문덕이 성장하여 薩水大捷을 승리로 이끌기까지 서사를 중심으로 한 고소설로, 학계에 소개되거나 연구된 바 없다. 이 작품은 첫째, 새로운 揷話를 揷入시켜 이야기를 劇的이고 生動感있게 進行시키고, 둘째, 등장인물의 이미지를 他者간 對話를 통해 間接的으로 傳達하는 方式을 취하고 있으며, 셋째, 역사상 중요하게 언급되는 「與隋將于中文詩」를 창의적 해석하여 문학적으로 훌륭하게 형상화하고 있다는 측면에서 여타 을지문덕류 서사물과 변별된다. 一元道士와 紅衣童子는 작가의 시선을 구체적으로 드러낸 등장인물로, 人本中心主義, 平等主義, 無經界(無政府)主義의 성향을 보이고 있다. 그러나 을지문덕을 도와 살수대첩을 승리로 이끈 서사로 보아, 작가는 一元道士, 紅衣童子와 乙支文德과 같은 先覺者들의 노력으로 外勢를 물리치고 國難을 克復하기를 바란 것으로 본다. 「홍의동자」는 이러한 작가의식을 문학적으로 의미 있게 담고 있다.
Abstract
Hongūi dongja is an old novel of ŪlchiMuntōk growing up and leading Salsu-Daechup to victory. It has not yet been introduced or researched in the field. There are distinguishable factors in this novel unseen in other works regarding UlchiMundok. Firstly, this novel adds new episodes for added liveliness and more dramatic storytelling. Secondly, the image of char- acters are told in a second-person's view through dialogues. Thirdly, reviewing Yeosujangujungmunsi, a text regarded with historical importance, in an original perspective and describing it excellently as a literature. Irwondosa and Honguidongja are characters who show the author's intention with details. They have tendency of humanism, equalitarianism, and boundlessness, and those match with the specialties of early anarchism. However, based on the plot where they help UlchiMuntok to lead Salsudaechup to victory, the author seems to have wished that pioneer characters like Irwondosa, Hongui- dongja, and UlchiMuntok would draw the foreign powers out and overcome a national crisis. This has similarities with Shin Chae-Ho's national anar- chism.
