Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of the reading aloud approach on reading comprehension and listening comprehension of elementary students with reading disability. For this purpose, this study sampled 20 elementary 4th to 6th graders with reading disability and divided them equally into experimental and control groups. The experimental group was subject to 12 sessions (each 40 minutes) of the reading aloud activity, while the control group was subject to an traditional reading instruction. Through pre and post tests, the data collected were analyzed by ANCOVA utilizing pre-test scores of both reading and listening comprehension as covariates. The results of this study revealed that significant differences were found between the experimental group and the control group on reading comprehension(total & applicable) and listening comprehension(total, factual, & inferential), exhibiting more improvement in the experimental group. Positive tendencies of improvement in the experimental group were found on factual and inferential reading comprehension and on comprehensive listening comprehension. This implies that it is deemed necessary to use the reading aloud approach for the elementary intermediate graders with reading disability to improve their reading and listening comprehension.
