학교폭력 경험에 관한 문화기술지

초록

본 연구는 학교폭력 경험의 본질을 밝히는 데 목적이 있으며, 이를 위해 학교폭력 경험이 있는 학생 13명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하였고, 질적자료의 분석방법은 문화기술지를 활용하였다. 연구결과 학교폭력 경험의 영역과 범주는 총 5개의 영역, 12개의 범주로 도출되었다. 도출된 영역과 범주를 살펴보면 첫 번째 ‘폭력의 피라미드 구조’영역의 범주는 ‘폭력을 재생산하는, 힘의 원리가 지배하는 폭력위계구조’, ‘힘의 차이가 유일한 폭력의 이유’이며, 두 번째 ‘힘에 의해 서열화된 또래관계’ 영역의 범주는 ‘힘의 위계에 따라 서열화된 몰인격적 또래관계’, ‘약자에 대한 집단적 혐오를 조장하는 폭력적 또래관계’, ‘집단적 힘의 압력에 굴종하는 분위기’이고, 세 번째 ‘학교폭력의 상처’ 영역의 범주는 ‘모순적 경험: 가해자이자 피해자’, ‘가해: 미성숙과 공감능력부재’, ‘피해: 홀로 감내하는 트라우마’이며, 네 번째 ‘경쟁만 남아있는 학교’ 영역의 범주는 ‘인격․도덕이 상실된 냉혈교육’, ‘학업외 모든 성장과정의 욕구를 억압하는 교육’이다. 마지막으로 다섯 번째 ‘뿌리 깊은 폭력문화와 외모지상․물질만능사회’ 영역의 범주는 ‘내면보다 외모․인간가치보다 물질가치가 지배하는 사회’, ‘폭력을 정당화하는 사회분위기’인 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 통하여 학교에서 폭력적 위계구조 속에 어떻게 또래관계가 붕괴되고 폭력이 재생산되어 가는지 그 역동적 과정을 파악할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 학교폭력을 예방 및 해결하기 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the nature of experiences of school violence. To this end, we conducted in-depth interviews of 13 students who had experiences of suffering from school violence. We used ethnography for the analysis of qualitative data. Our study derived four dimensions and 12 categories of the experiences of school violence. The four dimensions are 1) the pyramid structure of violence, 2) power hierarchy among students, 3) the harmful effects of School violence 4) competitive school environment, and 5) deep-rooted violent culture and materialism. The study found that violent hierarchy is created in the school environment that is characterized by the lack of character/moral education and intense competition for college entrance, leading to the collapse of peer relationship and reproducing violence. As such, we found that school violence is a structural issue, rather than an individual’s pathological one. Based on this result, we presented our recommendations on the prevention and resolution of school violence.
