This study is concerned with the narrative characteristic of Tang chuan-qi, particularly in relation to the non-human and other worlds. I think that Tang chuan-qi reflects political, cultural and religious contexts specific to Tang China. It echoes the life and mentality of the shih who lived in the united Tang empire. Therefore, it is different from situations of earlier periods. In narratives they tried to involve various aspects of the superficial world. Then most things which belong to non-human world are dealt in narratives, including the very small, the very distant, unseen things, and so on. And also different characteristics in narratives from the Six Dynasties zhi-guai are explored. In other
