대학생들의 노화에 관한 지식 및 노인에 대한 태도

본 연구의 목적은 사회복지계열과 비사회복지계열 학생들의 노인에 관한 교육과 노화에 관한 지식, 노인에 대한 태도 간의 관계를 조사함으로써 노년교육, 특히 노인에 관한 교육의 중요성을 밝히고자 하는 데 있다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 535명의 남녀 대학생들을 대상으로 노화에 관한 지식정도와 노인에 대한 태도 설문을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 첫째, 조사대상 대학생들의 노화사실인지척도 정답률은 34.36%로 매우 낮게 나타났다. 둘째, 연구대상자의 인구학적 특성들 중 전공, 노인관련 수업의 수강여부, 수강 과목수, 실습 및 자원봉사 경험 유무, 조부모와의 과거 동거경험 유무 등에 따라서 노화지식 정도에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 셋째, 조사 대상 대학생들의 노인에 대한 태도는 62.43점으로 중립 범위 안에 있는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 전공별로만 노인에 대한 태도에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 다섯째, 조사대상 대학생들의 노화 지식과 노인에 대한 태도 사이에 유의미하게 정적 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 노화에 관한 지식이 높을수록 노인에 대한 태도도 긍정적이었다. 이와 같은 결과는 고령사회에 대비하여 대학에서 노인에 관한 교육이 중요함을 시사해주는 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine undergraduate students' knowledge and attitudes toward the elderly by comparing students majoring in social welfare to the others. For this purpose we used a sample of 535 (182 males, 353 females) from three universities. The instrument in this study consisted of a 20-item semantic differential scale developed by Han(2004) and a 25-item FAQ revised by Han(2000b). The results of this study were as follows : ① Undergraduate students' knowledge about aging were very low. ② Their knowledge about aging were significantly different depending on their gender, major, taking courses about aging, practice or volunteering experience with the elderly, and living experiences with their grandparent(s). ③ Their attitudes toward the elderly were in a neutral range. ④ The attitudes of students majoring in the aging welfare toward the elderly, were significantly more positive than those of other students. ⑤ The correlation between knowledge about aging and attitudes towards the elderly was significantly positive. Finally, implications for future higher education and educational gerontology were discussed.
