고려시대를 포함하여 역사적으로 정치적 혼인은 개인 혹은 집단의 사회 권 력을 확립하고 유지, 확장하기 위한 중요한 수단으로 이용되어왔다. 하지만 정치적 혼인과 권력관계에 관한 사전 연구들의 보고에도 불구하고 대부분의 사전 연구는 단기적인 시기에 초점을 맞추어 연구가 진행되어왔다는 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 단기적인 시기가 아닌 더욱 장기적인 역사적 시기 를 분석하는 시각화 시스템을 고안하여 개발하고 고려 왕족들의 정치적 혼 인과 권력과의 관계를 분석하였다. 추가로 분석 결과와 더불어 본 연구는 개발된 시각화 시스템 평가를 위해 두 가지 사례 연구와 사용자 평가를 진 행하여 시스템의 효율성을 평가하였다. 연구의 결과, 첫째, 고려시대 왕족들 이 권력의 생성, 유지, 확장의 수단으로 정치적 혼인을 사용하였으며, 혼인 의 패턴이 역사적 시기에 따라 변화한다는 사실을 발견하였다. 둘째, 사용 자 평가를 통해 본 연구에서 제안하는 시각화 시스템이 역사 연구의 수단으 로 효율적이라는 결과를 도출하였다. 장기적으로 고려시대의 여러 왕의 정 치적 혼인과 권력의 관계를 시뮬레이션하는 본 연구의 시각화 시스템은 역 사적으로 정치적 혼인이 권력의 관계를 분석하는 연구자들에게 유용한 툴로 써 사용될 수 있다.
Abstract
Historically, political marriages have been productive and crucial in maintaining or extending social power, as demonstrated in the history of the Goryeo dynasty (i.e., AD 918–1392 in Korea), where royal families utilized marriage as a political strategy. Despite a good deal of previous research on political marriages of the Goryeo dynasty, there is a limitation due to the nature of political history in terms of the short time frame that researchers can focus on with interest. We thus turn our attention to a computational approach by developing a visualization system named GoryeoDPC to show the diachronic power changes of marriages that have changed over the extended duration of the Goryeo dynasty. For the evaluation, two case studies and a user study were conducted to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the GoryeoDPC system. As a result, with this visualization, historians can explore the marriage networks of royal families and also simulate the change in power by the origin or region. We believe that the visualization system developed in this study shed light on how to use it as a useful tool for researchers analyzing the historical impact of political marriages on power dynamics.
