번안된 대중가요에 대한 음성학적 고찰

Abstract

Since folk music reflects the social situations and emotions of the people, the public response to such music has a major on its production and distribution. In the 1960’s, Korea rapidly accepted a high volume of adapted foreign songs without any professional awareness of vocal phonetic issues however, with the popularity of karaoke equipment, the current acceptors of folk music are living in a different world they are no longer a passive audience. Because they now follow the music while performing karaoke, they have entered the situation in which they need to consider phonetic issues. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine, from the phonetic perspective, what issues exist in singing adapted folk music. For this study, many overseas and domestic literary works related to the history of folk music, voice production, medical phonetics, and acoustics, were used. This study also examined the theoretical background of voice production analysis through books, study theses, and materials in that field. Also based on that theoretical background, various people were recorded while singing in order to analyze their voice waves and spectrogram through a vocal analysis and transformation program called Praat. For the detailed analysis, the musical differences and vocal relations in singing between the original songs and adapted songs were compared. Phonetic differences and relations among English, French, and Italian songs were compared and analyzed in order to determine how they were composed by considering the accents, rhythmical changes, stress, and melody, and were also used to examine how they were reflected in the adapted version. In the results, it was found that there are problems that may occur when untrained people sing, and the significant problems with specific adapted songs were presented. Since the phonetic problems in folk music beginning from the later 1960s were discovered, adapted songs need to consider the phonetic problems of the general people. This study is intended to provide a foundation for the positive development of folk music that represents the emotions and social culture of the nation.
