Abstract

「Selected poem of Phyeongnam irrigation」 is the work that let Lee Yong Ak, who was purged after cease-fire, soft landing on the North Korean poetical circles and positioned him authentically in the center of the North Korean literary world. Lee Yong Ak was reinstated in 1955 and the next year he continued to work as the subeditor of Paperback Headquarters and member of Poetry Subcommittee of Chosun Writers Alliance and published 10 series poetries of 「Selected poem of Phyeongnam irrigation」 in the August issue of Chosun Literature. And on May 1957, 「Selected poem of Phyeongnam irrigation」 won 1st price in poetry of Literary Art Awards celebrating the 5th anniversary of NKPA(North Korean People’s Army)’s establishment and consolidated his status in North Korean literary world by publishing Lee Yong Ak’s anthology of poetry at the writers alliance publishing company on December. After that he kept on writing his works and on September 1968 he earned the 20th Anniversary Medal of the Republic foundation and on September 2003 after his death Kim Jung Il highly estimated his contribution to the great achievement of the country’s unification and gave him the Unification Award. He was one rare case among the South Korea labor party writers choosing north, who continuously worked in the center of the northern literary world. In this treatise we will consider the characteristics of 「Selected poem of Phyeongnam irrigation」that helped him to take a strong position in the Northern literary world after the Korean war and how the North Korean literary theory in the period of postwar recovery and establishment of socialistic foundation is reflected in Lee Yong Ak’s poetries. And related to that the character and directionality of Lee Yong Ak’s poetic world will be studied as well. And with this work we will figure out the factors of how he could survive the purge process of South Korea labor party to plant himself in the center of North Korean literary world and continued to write his work so constantly.
