Abstract
This study points out that ignoring time-specific effects would cause a bias in analyzing the effects of economic polity. To control for time-specific effects, it develops weighted-average estimates of cross-sectional estimates. These new estimation methods are expected to correctly estimate regression coefficients and standard errors as they control for a possibility that the variance of a regression model may vary over time and across cross-sectional units. In addition, this study emphasizes that, in analyzing the effects of monetary policy, time-specific effects can cause the disturbances to be cross-sectionally correlated, thereby biasing estimates of standard errors.
