Abstract

Law is a plan that regulates reality according to the normative idea. The idea of the law serves as a constructive principle for legal reality, and as a measure of value. The normative idea of the law is justice. Modern society seeks justice and peace through law. And in a state of justice and peace, human beings can achieve well-being, the realization of the integral fulfilment of persons of their existence. Well-being is not simply a subjective psychological satisfaction, but a life combined with a good life. Human laws and institutions embody and protect the conditions necessary for this good life to realize well-being. The pursuit of well-being is embodied and realized by participating in basic goods. And through this process, human beings grow and mature into more than they can become. A basic good is an inherent or unique good in realizing the integral fulfilment of persons. Good, which is not related to the realization of the integral fulfilment of persons, may be important to the individual, but it is not a basic goods, but an external goods. The function of basic goods provide the basis for screening the possibilities of numerous opportunities in human life as follows. It is to help me to judge and choose if the opportunity in front of me is worth choosing. If human beings are obsessed with their emotions or desires and live while pursuing greed, they will fail to realize the integral fulfilment of persons, and life itself will fail. For example, it becomes clear when you think about a life in which you have committed acts of murder, adultery, lying, and slander to meet your desires. There are countless values ??in human life. However, not all of these opportunities contribute to the realization of the integral fulfilment of persons. Basic goods distinguishes the value of your choice from your choice. According to John Finnis, the basic good things are: (1)life, (2)knowledge, (3)play, (4)aesthetic experience, (5)sociability(friendship), (6)practical reasonableness, (7)religion. These seven basic goods have no hierarchical order. This is because human existential situations are different. Therefore, the ranking of these basic values ??can change. This can be called a cycle of basic values. This cycle forms the horizon of opportunity for humans to choose in life. So what are the basic requirements for practical reasonableness to choose and practice basic goods? According to Finnis, (1)the good of practical reasonableness structures our pursuit of goods, (2)a coherent plan of life, (3)no arbitrary preference amongst values, (4)no arbitrary preference amongst peoples, (5)detachment and commitment, (6)efficiency, (7)respect for every basic goods in every acts, (8)the requirements of the common good, and (9)following one’s conscience. And the choice and practice according to these nine can be called moral judgment. Through the synthesis of these nine requirements, humans achieve their well-being by realizing their integral fulfilment of persons.
