Abstract

Because The History of Korean Drama by Kim Jae-chul is the first book written about the history of Korean drama, it must be studied at the historical viewpoint.Without defining the concept of the drama Kim Jae-chul classified the genres into four sort; the mask dance-drama, the puppet, the old drama and the new drama.Kim Jae-chul was influenced by the policy of establishing Chosun studies by Japanese and the positivism.Kim Jae-chul did not studied the dramatic genres of the same age on the whole and did not analyze those at the viewpoint of the social science.But Kim Jae-chul collected the traditional materials and unified the ancient drama and the modern drama, and approached by the comparative method.Therefore these fact must be rated high.
