Abstract
Digital games are convergent content that reproduces the heroic mythology with digital technology. In digital games, most of the heroes were male protagonists, and in the case of females, they were limited merely as 'objects to be saved' or 'objects as reward'. This study primarily analyzed prototype and characteristics of female heroes in digital game. A female hero is divided into a relationship-oriented achiever and a subject-oriented explorer depending on whether she finds her identity and value in the restoration of the relationship with the other and in the performance of a given mission, or in the search for the world's spectacle and focus on the self. The relationship-oriented achiever is designed as a 'fatherless daughter' or 'wife without husband'. In this case, the female hero is not recognized as a true hero even after finishing the hero’s journey. Meanwhile subject-oriented explorer acquires her subjectivity by observing and exploring the wide world of game. After completing quests and discovering new value order, she could be die symbolically. Depending on the type of female hero in the digital game, the genre of the game also varies. Firstly, female heroes who are disguised in a man's clothe, are often seen in commercial adventure games. In this case, the female hero's journey restructures the journey of the man’s adventure and consequently it is limited to the sub-genre of the main game. On the other hand, a female hero of the subject-centered explorer type mainly appears in the Indi-Game. They are presenting the new rules and alternative genres of games, revealing their aspect as the nomadic subjects.
