Abstract
When T. S. Eliot wrote the poem “the Dry Salvages”, he was an avowedly Anglo-Catholic. After his conversion in 1927, his poems focus on Christian ideology and symbols. But his later poems such as Four Quartets contain a lot of the Oriental symbols, concepts and way of thinking. That’s why I read “The Dry Salvages” in the perspective of Hinduism. In this poem the supreme god of Hinduism appears and his words are directly cited. Lots of symbols and concepts are used in the viewpoint of Hinduism, though some of them are surely derived from Christianity. In “The Dry Salvages”, Eliot’s concern on the Hinduism was very deep and impressive.
