The makeup trend emphasizing the unique and creative personality expression of an individual in accordance with the complexity and diversity of modern society. The artistic makeup has been exerting substantial impact on the public and makeup artists in various forms and contents. The artistic makeup share the forms and contents with a variety of artistic trends as being influenced by those trends in the modern times.The modern people are enthusiastic about something fantastic. The surrealism contained in the fantasy can relieve the unachievable desires in the reality and present the pleasure and novelty. Thus, the fantastic elements exist a lot in the novels, films, entertainments and shows now. In other words, the fantasy makeup has been used in the popular culture such as various hair shows, fashion shows, films and advertisement. The modern fantasy makeup in the 20th century can't be discussed without one "arts trend", the surrealism. The fantasy makeup is closely related to the surrealism in its contents and expression ways. The surrealism was originated from the pure arts, it had have substantially more impact on the fashion industry and commercial art than any other arts trends. Accordingly, this paper attempts to theoretically reestablish the fantasy makeup that is not definitely defined yet in terms of theories by analyzing the surrealistic features in the fantasy makeup that has been drawing substantial attention in the popular culture in the modern times.
