Abstract
This study is to research the symbol of shamans' costume focusing on the structure of upper garments and the ornaments attached on them.The upper garments of shamans of many Siberian races are made of the leather of animals or cloth. The structure of upper garments is related with the shape of birds. The ornaments representing the feather or something of birds are also used. The ornaments attached on the upper garments symbolize the soul. When shamans perform a religious service, they have supernatural power by receiving the authority and power of every souls attached on their upper garments.The fact that shamans wear a bird-shaped upper garment and ornaments embedded with various souls shows that shamans try to contact directly with supernatural being. In this sense, the upper garments are the most important instrument in performing religious services.
