청소년의 신체상이 사회불안에 미치는 영향: 자기효능감의 매개효과

초록

본 연구는 청소년의 신체상, 자기효능감, 사회불안의 관계를 파악해보고, 궁극적으로는 신체상과 사회불안에 대한 자기효능감의 매개효과를 분석해보고자 하였다. 연구는 서울과 경기도 소재 중학교와 고등학교에 재학 중인 남녀 청소년 585명을 대상으로 구조화된 설문지를 실시하였고, 자료 분석은 기술통계, 상관관계, 구조방정식 모형분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 신체상이 부정적일수록 자기효능감이 저하되고 사회불안이 높아지는 것으로 나타났고, 자기효능감과 사회불안 간에 부적상관이 나타났다. 둘째, 신체상은 사회불안에 직접적으로 영향을 미치기보다는 자기효능감을 통해 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 연구를 통해 신체상은 청소년의 사회불안에 유의한 영향력을 미치는 요소이고, 인지적 요인인 자기효능감이 신체상과 사회불안에 매개하여 작용함을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 청소년들의 사회불안에 대처하기 위해서는 청소년의 신체상에 대해 긍정적으로 인식할 수 있도록 도울 뿐 아니라, 자기효능감을 향상시킬 수 있도록 도와주는 방식의 개입이 필요함을 시사한다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점에 대하여 논의하였다.

Abstract

The primary goal of this study was to explore the influence of body image on social anxiety and to examine the mediating effects of self-efficacy in this relationship. To examine this hypothesis, Body-image Scale, Self-efficacy scale, Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents were administered to the 585 students and the data were analyzed through SPSS and Structured Equational Modeling. The results were as follows:First, negative body image was positively correlated to social anxiety and negatively correlated to self-efficacy. Self-efficacy had negative correlation with social anxiety. Second, there was full mediating effect of self-efficacy between body image and social anxiety, and model hypothesizing full mediating effects of self-efficacy showed appropriate fit indices. Therefore, negative body-image affects social anxiety only by decreasing self-efficacy. Implications for practice and further research are discussed.
