Abstract

Although the importance of business ethics and CSR education has been emphasized, the effectiveness of this education is yet controversial. It is important that the learner’s ethics and social responsibility-related attitudes and decision-making standards are actually influenced. It was expected that the education through movies would have such effects, because the impact due to the vividness and strong visual effects unique to the movie media will be great. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether business ethics and CSR education affects learner’s positive attitude toward business ethics and CSR by using the film as educational material. During the semester, a total of seven movies were viewed and a variety of discussions were held with the team and the whole class discussions. Thus, students’ responses to the effects of film education were very positive. The results of this study are as follows. First, the effects of film education were significant on students’ business ethics and CSR attitudes. On the other hand, ethical idealism and ethical relativism, which were adopted as individual differences, did not exerted significant main/moderating effects. Therefore, it was confirmed that the effect of education is more important than the individual predisposition toward ethical ideologies. On the other hand, due to the immersive nature of film education, some adverse effects have also appeared. There is a need to continually explore effective teaching methods.
