Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a CT-based problem solving model for software education. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, it was carried out research in the following manner. First, we investigated the CT theoretically. Through study of the concepts of CT and the components of the CT, 5 components of CT were produced as decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, algorithm, and automation. Secondly, the strategies to discover the CT-based problem were discussed. Characteristics with CT-based problem were presented, and the required CT levels were suggested depending on the level of CT-based problem attributes. They were proposed four types of CT-based problem, and they were presented a variety of cases by each types. And various examples were discussed to confirm how CT components could be applied to CT based problems. Thirdly, it was suggested the CT-based problem solving model composed 3 steps: unplugged process, automation process, and deepening process. This model was named CT-PS model. It was presented the application examples in order to confirm the applicability of the CT-PS model. Fourth, the validity of the CT-PS model was verified. The name of the 3 steps of the model was not appropriate, the configuration of the sub-steps was not appropriate as the results of the validity verification of the model targeting the 15 experts. It was decided the directions of modification and completion of the CT-PS model based on the opinions of the experts. Fifth, It was proposed a modified CT-PS model. Modified CT-PS model was composed of 3 steps, step 1: problem analysis, step 2: abstraction, step 3: implementation, and it was possible to confirm the applicability of the model by applying the model to a CT-based problem.
