Ryu, Byong-Rae. 2018. On the Ambiguity of tasi (again) in Korean: A Presupposition-based Lexical Account. Korean Journal of Linguistics, 43-4, 695-720. This paper is concerned with the interpretation and representation of the meaning of an adverb of repetition, tasi (again), in Korean. We present a set of new data drawn from the Sejong 21 Corpus, showing that tasi (again) is ambiguous between a repetitive, a restitutive, and a sequential reading. The sequential reading has not been reported in the literature yet. We present a unified presupposition-based lexical analysis of tasi (again) according to which the ambiguity arises solely in the presuppositional component. It is argued that the same eventuality (repetitive), the counter-directional eventuality (restitutive) or the complement of the eventuality (sequential) described by the predicate is presupposed. In all the three readings, the assertion of tasi (again) remains constant. (Chungnam National University)
