초록
It is the purpose of this paper to argue that it is a better choice in Korean phonology to handle the n-insertion and sai-siot phenomena in terms of the a template satisfaction to be proposed. When a wide range of Korean data is examined, it appears that there is a complementarity of those two phenomena and an acceptable theory must be capable of handling it simply and perspicuously. The explanation for this complementarity is provided within the purview of the constraint interaction, providing we make one crucial assumption: The morphology-phonology interface projects compound boundary onto the phonological representation, and the inserted n and sai-siot should be the physical manifestation of that compound boundary. It will be shown that either of those two phenomena are attested in diverse complementary environments and the compound boundary plays a pivotal role in the form of a template satisfaction.
