20세기 초 전통 가곡 문화의 변화상과 공연의 실제(1) -1900~1910년대 신문·잡지에 기록된 가곡 연행 양상을 중심으로-

Abstract

In this study, there is the purpose to research by looking at practical aspects of the performances and the changes of Gagok(Korean traditional songs) of the early 20th century. This article, as its first step, is Focusing on the changes from 1900 to the late 1910's and advancing the debate about them. On the basis of the content that had been recorded in magazines and newspapers, I researched the changes of Gagok culture and the actual performances during the period, The proportion of Gagok at phonograph records was very small. However, from the initial release date, albums of Gagokchang(sing Korean traditional song) had been recorded and released. The album work was led by Gisaeng from the governing office who had high public popularity and awareness at this time. Repertoires such as Whapeon which is the title of Yeochang had been selected and recorded. Also, I found that this time had been not significantly affected by major figures of our Gagok tradition, such as Ha, Kyu-il. Elimination of the Gisaeng’s caste system and changes of the performing way also brought a big change to the performances of Gagok. Elimination of Gwangi(Gisaeng belongs to the governing office) system and communication between Gisaeng out of Gwangi and Sampae was a chance to be unveiled to the Gagok performances for the public. In court, unlike traditional performances, Gagok, Gasa and Japga was performing together. In addition, performances of Gagokchang changing into stage performances, they were converted into the way that singing one or two songs rather in the manner of an existing way of Gagok Hanbatang. They were also be performed with popular songs of the time and enjoyed in a new way such as Grand competition for Gagok. In such a situation, several critic had come out in order to maintain the legitimacy of Gagok. I found that performances and its recognition had been changed rapidly according to the flow of a number of the trends.
