Abstract

The present manuscript searches after the Korean poems of ideal 'nonmedicinal motif' that is spread in the poetry works throughout the history to investigate the expressive properties and the types in accordance with the themes. Moreover, the materiality and the changes of the poetic concepts were also examined in accordance with the theme through the similarities and differences amongst the works divided according to their themes. The nonmedicinal motif of Korean poem speaks of the feature that structures the idea that accomplishes a single motif with the recognition and expression of 'no medicine for certain diseases' within the content of the poem. Moreover, the nonmedicinal motif that appears in the poems can be largely into 'those about lovesickness' and 'those about eternal life.' Such nonmedicinal motif forms a single materiality with the accurate poetic and unique features and represents a single aspect of esthetics for poetry. However, researches have yet been accomplished until the present day. The poem of nonmedicinal motif enhances the poetic concept through the 'absence of medicine' and also holds the features of attempting to condense. Hence, the absence of the hopeful medicine is the objective correlative for the 'feelings that cannot be forced,' the poem of nonmedincinal motif begins from the sadness and sighs that is basically the frustration of hope. Since the medicine that the individual desires is the 'medicine of absence' and is the 'medicine of fabrication,' the poem of nonmedicinal motif can be spoken as the group of works that have symbolized the strong wishes and emotions of the poet. The nonmedicinal motif in particular is the unique poetic feature of the Korean poem that is not common in Chinese poetry with depth in affinity of poetry and poetic concepts, it will be able to newly position as the important lyrical feature for the esthetics of Korean poems.
